Caring for a person with dementia requires learning and practicing a host of new skills. Some skills we develop implicitly and some need to be taught. When care partners know more about how the brain works (or doesn’t work in dementia) they can better navigate the communication and care challenges unique to dementia care. Dr. Sherrie All, a dementia care expert and licensed clinical neuropsychologist, will share with you her neuroscience-informed, best-practices for improving your communication and care strategies to help you be more successful day-to-day.

A gift will be raffled off to one lucky attendee at the end of the program!

A Song From the Past

My aunt had played piano beautifully, but for the past decade she wouldn’t touch the keys. Dementia limited her attention span, so getting her interested in anything has been challenging for herand for us. But Wayne, one of her Artis Life Enrichment Assistants, never gave up. Since she would never come over to the piano, Wayne decided to bring the piano to her! He rolled it over, started tapping the keys and spoke to her about her years of playing. Within minutes, she slowly began to play beautiful musicfrom memory! Everyone was astonished. Now she eagerly plays with another resident for audiences at Artis. Our family is overjoyed!
